Current members of Jukebox Joy would like to foster a larger
group of talented musicians who would be willing to participate in this
venture, agreeing to play songs of the 1960s and earlier for such
groups throughout the Byron Shire. A number have already shown a desire
to join us.
We have identified five nursing homes and villages
in the Byron Shire and two in Ballina Shire that have expressed interest in being entertained in
this way, and we would like to be able to afford to enrich their
experience by providing rhythm and percussion instruments for them to
play. It would also be desirable to be able to hand out song
sheets
with large print lyrics for sing-alongs. With the nine senior's centres
expressing an interest in participating in the project, there is a
total of 20 hours of potential entertainment to fill each week in
Byron Shire homes.
Why not join the coillective?
If you have a musical talent and have performance skills that are at a professional or advanced amateur level and you feel you are capable of and interested in entertaining these deserving folks (who tend to be a little forgotten in the rush of contemporary society) - then don't hesitate to email or phone us (see the "contact us" link in the main menu) to discuss how you could join the Jukebox team and make a valuable contribution to the lives of some beautiful elders in your district.
It's a great outlet for your talent , a wonderful way to hone your skills and get great performance experience, while at the same time giving something back to those who have allready made a lifelong contribution of their own to our society and the district, and really deserve to get something back. Share the Joy! Join in the fun! Get them singin along!
Jukebox Joy would like to see local schools and youth centres becoming
involved also, and preliminary discussions are soon to take place with
stakeholders
regarding the idea of opening up performance possibilities for school,
uni, and conservatorium music
students and youth groups in this context. It's a great way to get "off
broadway" experience in all aspects of live music performance, while
doing a great service to the community at the same time.
